Gary L. Seevers led the futures brokerage business for Goldman Sachs & Co. in New York and abroad after joining the firm in 1979 as head of commodities marketing. He became co-head of the futures department in 1982 and was named a general partner in 1986. For three years he headed fixed income in Asia and co-headed the Goldman Sachs Tokyo office and returned to New York in 1990 to become general partner with worldwide futures brokerage responsibilities. In 1995, Seevers retired becoming a limited partner at Goldman Sachs. A noted agricultural economist, Seevers was appointed by President Nixon to be one of three Members of his Council of Economic Advisers in 1973, having served three years on the Council’s senior staff. In 1975 President Ford appointed him to the new Commodity Futures Trading Commission where he served four years before joining Goldman Sachs. Seevers is a benefactor to several organizations, including the New York Metropolitan Opera, New York Hospital, The Nature Conservancy, the Michigan 4-H Foundation and Michigan State University. He is an active supporter of the American Agricultural Economists Foundation and a noted distinguished alumni of both the MSU College of Agriculture and MSU Honors College. Before beginning his career as an agriculture economist, he served as a 4-H youth agent in Ingham and Lenawee Counties. He went on to serve as an assistant professor at Oregon State University.
