An electrician by trade, Lawrence W. Nuechterlein is also noted for lighting up the lives of youth and adults as a community volunteer. He was owner and operator of Nuechterlein Electric until he retired in 1986. Today he continues to serve as the electrical inspector for the city and township of Frankenmuth. He has served as electrical consultant for several exhibits at the Frankenmuth Historical Museum and annually installs the public address systems for the Memorial Day service, Mission Fest celebrations and 4-H Achievement Day. Nuechterlein has volunteered with Saginaw County 4-H for 27 years. He is part of the “Helping Us Grow With Seniors” mentor program at a local elementary school. He is also a member of the Seven-Smart Committee that is preserving Frankenmuth’s German dialect by compiling a dictionary. He volunteers as an instructor on the use of dialect for the high school’s German class. The Frankenmuth Historical Association Board honored his community contributions with an Award for Overall Service and he was also presented with the Frankenmuth Rotary Club’s Paul Harris Fellowship. He has received the J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award and the Frankenmuth Jaycee’s Herbert L. Keinath Distinguished Service Award. In memoriam July 31, 2012.
