Title: Retired General Manager, Michigan Milk Producers Association
Bio:It’s difficult to put into words how 4-H could change a youth who grew up on a farm in the 1920s and 30sthe years of the Great Depression. 4-H opened many doors for me and helped me lift my horizon and realize I could do something with my life.
Jack Barnes, a 4-H member for nine years, served as general manager for 26 of the 39 years he worked for the Michigan Milk Producers Association, a Fortune 500 organization under his leadership. A nationally recognized milk marketing analyst, Barnes has helped milk producing organizations resolve complex problems and improve production profitability. He has served as a consultant and on the boards and committees for universities and many Michigan and national dairy organizations. Barnes has served as a member of the MSU Development Fund Board and a Michigan 4-H Foundation trustee, serving as the Foundation president for two years. He has been honored with the MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Distinguished Service and Outstanding Alumni Awards, the MSU Extension Epsilon Sigma Phi Friend of Extension Award, FFA Honorary State Farmer Award, and the Michigan 4-H Citation Award. He and his wife, Betty, are members of the Jonathan L. Snyder Society, one of MSUs most significant donor societies. He also served 12 years on the board of the Americana Foundation in Novi, is a former board member for the Greater Lansing Visiting Nurses Service and is a brother of the Century-Alpha Gamma Rho. In memoriam February 20, 2010.
