Prior to her assignment in the international division, she was the vice president of public affairs and government relations for Walmart. She led a team responsible for state and local government relations, and political media strategy. Sans had oversight for community grassroots and stakeholder outreach, and helped manage part of the company’s charitable giving at the community level. She received her bachelor’s degree in political science and government from Michigan State University and her master’s degree in international relations from Boston University. Philanthropy and leadership is important to Sans. She has served on national boards for many organizations: US-China Strong Foundation, 100K Strong Foundation, Americas Society, American Council of Young Political Leaders, American Legislative Exchange Council, Tenth Amendment Center, Council of the Americas Inc., Private Enterprise LLC and the National Conference of State Legislatures.
During Sans’ 4-H member years, she was the president of the Oakland County 4-H Livestock Club and a mentor to many younger 4-H’ers. She exhibited many livestock projects during her 4-H career and participated in many state 4-H events. Today, she continues to give back to 4-H by serving on the National 4-H Council Board. She provides leadership to the Walmart: Youth Voice, Youth Choice grants, which Michigan 4-H has been a recipient of multiple times.
Being in 4-H has helped me reflect on who I am, but also helped me feel confident enough to step out of my comfort zone. From my experience in 4-H, I have realized that I have grown as a person but also developed many crucial life and career skills.
