Title: Owner, Sprik Sheep Farm

“Little did I know while working on a cutting board for 4-H wood working that 58 years later I would still be involved in 4-H. After 32 years as a 4-H sheep leader, I have seen many kids in my club grow up to be outstanding in many vocations. Yes, I’m still a 4-H’er!”

Douglas Sprik is owner of the Sprik Family Sheep Farm. As a sheep producer, he has sheared sheep in many states and participated in both state and national shearing competitions. Sprik has taught a variety of sheep shearing schools, been a 4-H volunteer leader and assisted with the Hopkins FFA. His role as a mentor, teacher and sheep shearer has allowed many youth to pursue their dreams of owning a few sheep as a hobby or full time sheep breeder. As a 4-H volunteer, he has chaperoned 4-H out of state exchange trips and held winter campouts with his club. Sprik has also volunteered to the Michigan Fiber Festival and has given various shearing demonstrations at senior centers and elementary schools. He served nine years as the Michigan director for the Mid-States Wool Growers Board and served as Allegan County Fair sheep superintendent where he was instrumental in starting a shearing competition for 4-H’ers and open exhibitors. Among many of his awards and achievements, Sprik has been honored for his efforts by the Michigan Fiber Festival and received the Hopkins FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer Award.
