Stuever studied in the Department of Home Economics at Michigan State College. Doris put her academic success to work as a substitute teacher. Lynn Island Farms, the business she runs with her husband and two sons, has been recognized with numerous awards from MSU Extension, the Michigan Milk Producers Association, the Dairy Herd Improvement Association, the St. Clair County Conservation District, and the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. In 2013, the farm was featured in a Pure Michigan television commercial. As chief financial officer, Stuever’s input drives all farm business decisions as evidenced by the fact that the farm operates on a 1 percent debt-to-asset ratio and consistently ranks in the top 25 percent of dairy farms in financial performance, as measured by MSU ag economics business analysis of farmers participating in the MSU TelFarm program. Stuever was a Lynn Township 4-H Club leader for 30 years. She was also a St. Clair County 4-H Teen Service Club 4-H Leader and the founding organizer of the St. Clair County 4-H benefit auction. Her eight children were all active 4-H members and she brought the world to them by hosting a dozen exchange students from throughout the world and as many from through the United States via the International Four-H Youth Exchange (IFYE) and state-to-state 4-H exchange programs. Stuever also served as St. Clair County 4-H and Youth Fair sheep show clerk, dairy food and sewing superintendent, and judged 4-H projects at fairs and Spring Achievement programs in St. Clair, Lapeer and Sanilac counties for many years. She taught at 4-H Exploration Days, provided leadership to the 4-H personal appearance statewide galaxy meetings and served on the state 4-H food and nutrition programming committee. She is also an honorary lifetime member of the St. Clair County 4-H Council. She has served as dairy communicator for United Dairy Industries of Michigan as well as a board member for the Capac Community Library and CSB Bank. She also served the Woman’s Auxiliary, St. Clair Conservation District.
